Boring Boring Boring Boring.

Bla Bla fill it with random catalysm related bla. GOD I cant hear it anymore. Just wait it out and then do some testing on the real stuff. It reminds me of people who sit in the room before a test and discuss what will be the content. JUST SHUT UP.

ICC 10 calculation

You want to know how to make a good setup to finish the last achievements, get your drake? No problem here you go.

You will need two tanks and there is a very easy rule. They need to be DKs or not both the same class.
You will need two healers. Pick two out of the two groups (Paladin, Shaman) + (Druid, Priest).
You will need ONE melee. Not two, certainly not three. You need one. If you take a warrior or a shaman, you need to bring a Paladin tank.
You will need 4 different range DD. You can bring more then one warlocks.

Last slot you fill with somebody who can heal, can be a range or a melee.

If you have to make a setup that is NOT following this rules, it MIGHT get ugly. Good players can make up for a lot. But whatever you do, never bring more then two melee OR ELSE!

Computer games

I bought a couple games. You know, these kind of old games that aren't really old. 2,99 € they were sold for, so I bought:

Prince of Persia, the two thrones
Deus Ex, invisible war
Vampire: the Masquerade, bloodlines

Why did I buy them? They were cheap and I knew the predecessors.
Why did I write the name of the game with capitals and the name of the "version" small? Because they blow.

Seriously, Prince of Persia used to rock, Deus Ex was awsome. It's ranking for me on top 3 on "FPS with inventory". Best one is System Shock 2. Vampire: Redemption was also pretty good.

As to the new ones .... Vampire Bloodlines is not even remotely as cool as the previous version. No crusade and then wake up in presence for apocalypse. Prince of Persia is more like prince of "either you take exactly the way you are supposed to or you are dead" feels more like a puzzle game and the combat mode is boring. Maybe it gets better but I was sick of it after 5 minutes.

As for Deus Ex, I knew it blows, that is why I didn't buy it when it was like 60 €.

As for the point: The reason why I play online games is that the extension is not screwing everything up you like about the game. Sure, Cataclysm will change alot, I am not sure that I like the cookie cutter specs for everybody. Give me 5 more talent points on the other side, that be something. I like that part about making your choices. Soon I fear you only pick Race, Class and Spec (Holy/Protection/Retribution) and there you go. But anyway, if I see what people can do to games (do you remember how awsome C&C used to be until westwood sold their souls to the the dEAvil ?) there is still way to go to break WoW, .... I hope

I was thinking ...

... about people and blogs about WoW and why everybody hides the name. There are many good reasons to not tell the names of people, for example if you rant about them and do not mean it as bad as you said it.

However on the other side ...

Lavolpe. His name is Lavolpe okay? I don't give you his email address or any kind of private information, I just want to be able explain the story properly. I could also call him Shaman #1836 because this seems to be an issue thats not exclusive to shamans but it seems they are way more affected by it. The current half-life of a shaman in our raid is about a month. Then the algorithm fires. What algorithm you mean? The algorithm that is coded deep into the DNA of every shaman.

IF {days in guild} > 30 AND {dkp spend} > 100 AND {hours to raid} < 10 THEN {/gquit}

Don't know whats about them. I always keep recruitment open on shamans to deal with the constant loss of them.

Anyway he left, just like that. Not saying much, not even bother to tell. Seriously, what did I do to do that you leave the guild a couple hours before raid? Probably nothing.

Well news for you, people out there. You can play online games, have your fun and still not behave like you care only for yourself. Why do not think guild bother to select people careful, because people like you ruin it for everybody.

So I made you a couple guidelines:

Preamble:
You can be freaking happy that somebody else does the work for you of organizing everything. Your job is reduced to the fun part so do your best to enjoy it and make it enjoyable for everybody else.

1. Plan your activities.
Raiding, like everything else is an activity. If you don't show up for bowling or laser tag or a dinner, people wont invite you anymore.

2. Deal with changes
If you have a dinner and miss it, most girls will forgive if you have to drive your dog to the hospital, but you have a cellphone, she has a cellphone, if you do not call she will consider you a jerk and not a friendly person who cares about animals. Same goes for raid. If you call and let me know you can't make it for a good reason, I might not be as pissed.

3. BEHAVE
Bring flowers and don't start screaming if you are told that you wont make second base this evening. Seriously, don't scream if something doesn't go the way you want it. Good relationships take time and one-night-raids may be fun but it's pretty scammy if the other person did not know of your intention. You will have a reputation for that kind of behavior soon and then you can date the equivalent of a bad pug. PUG's are fun you say? Well then do not apply for guild, if you aren't ready for the commitment.

Okay, this turns awful fast into a dating guide, but after all, guilds and dating are much alike.

"Heaven has no rage like love to hatred turned / Nor hell a fury like a raidleader scorned."

Now seriously, mind your behavior with the people who organize events and put some a little bit of respect for the work they do because much too often they grow sick of it and find somebody else to do it, leaving you to look for a better option.

Facebook OMG

Just so you know, I deactivated Real ID a long time ago over the parent control panel. Because it is creepy.

Now my wife started to friend people from the guild and I know this will get ugly. Imagine she fires them later ...

Oh dear, this Facebook goes WoW stuff is DANGEROUS!

The SLOPPY Raid

Nobody likes to admit it but our days are numbered. It is only a question of time until it happens. As much as you prepare for the worst case, you can never be sure it wont happen again.

The S.L.O.P.P.Y Raid
"SLOPPY Raid" stands for "Supprising Lack Of Proper People ReadY - Raid". Okay, I made this up, who cares. But you know what I am talking about. The nightmare of every raid leader.

You recruited enough people to be able to replace people even while a running raid. You have enough people who play double roles to switch into different raid compositions, for emergencies you have proper equipped twinks and friends who can jump in on short notice. Sign ups are looking good, a couple people can not come but you have that all covered and replacement is good. You are relaxing before the raid by watching some old sci-fi tv series when it hits.

The "Raid Phone" rings. No joke, I have a mobile phone that is only used for one purpose. To give the number out to people I know online so they can reach me if its important. That phone rings and its like the music accelerating in a horror movie. Either it will get REAL ugly very soon or its just a fake shocker.

Heal team down to 3 core people, down from 7. Tank team down to 2 from 4. Damage dealer missing their strongest people and the lineup consist mainly out of replacement. You do your job, you call in replacements, you figure out who has to come on a twink or has to respec or play offspec but deep in your heart you know that it wont work. The damage will be too low to get anything serious done, the heal setup is either lacking direct throughput on single target or group heal, and the tank replacement is inexperienced.

And of course, some people can not come. Emergency because somebody got injured, you know that it will happen. Down to 24 people. I am not talking about these "we can down the boss easy with 24 people because they are good", more like the "even with 30 people that might not work out" kind. And then, computer failure, connection issues, you see it unfolding long before you hang up the phone. That wont go anywhere. We wont get past Lady Deathwisperer HC and even if, Sauerfang HC will be the end.

What now? Cancel the raid? Try it anyway? Do something else?

You grind your teeth and try to make up with motivation what is lacking. Halion 25 better then usual, Lord Marrowgar HC without much issue and there we go.

Wipe, wipe, wipe-wipe-wipe. Do not get me wrong, they are getting better. Slowly. But that edge that you need to down a little trickier bosses like Lady Deathwisperer HC is just not there. The damage is just a little too low to pass the enrage. The switches just a little too imprecise to keep the adds under control. The CC just a bit too slow, the heal just a little to random and wipe. Good wipes, almost down wipes, fail pull wipes, concentrated wipe, wipes with people screaming, wipes with no one talking and then the evening is finaly over.

Your wrists hurt, your head spins and you have only one thought. That must not happen again. Every person who just looks unreliable gets crucified. Anyone who coughs in voice chat is being forced to go to bed so he wont be sick. No one is allowed to engage in risky activity of any kind. You desperately search new people for the guild, see whom of the old people you can reactivate and although you still have days you make death threats against anyone who did not immediately sign up.

But you know, it will happen again, regardless how good you prepare, it will come for you when you least expect it.

Curious cats

Last week was interesting. We downed Sauerfang HC after some attempts, which was pretty awesome.
We almost wiped on Mr. Bonestorm on the other hand, a boss thats on farm status since months already.

In the second run we had another bunch of epic fails. I don't really want to list them all but it was bad.
Kinetic bombs? No words.
No biting? Oh dear.
No kicking? Suprise!
Iceblock in the raid? Sure.
Not hiding behind the iceblock? Why not.

And about Lich King we don't really have to talk. Everything went down, even LK after some prep talk. But overall it was a not very pleasant week.
